At present, China has become the world's largest elevator producer and consumer, according to statistics, in 2013, China's annual demand for elevators has exceeded 450,000 units, accounting for 60% of the global elevator market demand. As of 2014, the production volume of elevators has reached 708,000 units, and the number of elevators has exceeded 3.5 million units. It is expected that by 2015, the number of elevators will reach 4.2 million.
At present, although China has become the world's most important elevator production base and consumer market, there is still a big gap between the popularity of elevators in China and the level of developed countries in Europe and the United States. Data show that at the end of 2011, the per capita ownership of elevators in China was about 700 people/unit, close to the world average, but still far below the level of 100-200 people/unit in developed countries. The saturated ownership of China's elevator market is about 7 million units, compared with about 2.45 million elevators in China in 2012, China's elevator market will still have about 4.5 million units of growth space.
1. Growth of commercial real estate
With the continuous urbanization process in China, cities need to build more office buildings and commercial business buildings to support the sustainable development of the local tertiary industry, while providing convenience for the daily life of urban residents. In addition, in order to show the image of the city, various places usually choose to build large-scale supertall buildings (vertical height more than or equal to 300 meters). According to data from China Construction Science and Technology Network, as of the end of May 2014, China has completed 25 super high-rise buildings, 11 more than the second ranked United States, 78 super high-rise buildings under construction in China, and only 47 other countries in the world combined. It can be seen that the continuous improvement of China's building height is bound to drive a large number of elevator demand.
2. Increased urban infrastructure construction
The stable growth of the macroeconomy has promoted the continuous improvement of China's urbanization rate. According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, in 2012, China's urbanization rate was 52.57%, and according to the overall goal of building a moderately prosperous society in an all-round way, China's urbanization rate will reach 60% by 2020. The continuous improvement of urbanization rate has led to the improvement of the scale of public infrastructure construction such as airports, railway stations, hospitals, and gymnasiums in China, and the purchase volume of elevators has increased accordingly.
3. The renewal of old elevators and the renovation of old buildings have increased
In the field of old elevator renewal, the elevator still operates illegally beyond the specified service life, which will bring major hidden dangers in elevator safety. According to the Regulations on the Safety Supervision of Special Equipment promulgated by the State Council, "if there is a hidden danger of serious accidents in special equipment, there is no transformation or maintenance value, or it exceeds the service life stipulated in the safety technical specifications, the unit using special equipment shall scrap it in time". In the field of renovation of old buildings, with the improvement of socio-economic level and the aging of the population, the need to install elevators in existing buildings has attracted the attention of government departments. The Ministry of Construction listed special projects in the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" key scientific and technological support projects to study the transformation of existing buildings, especially on how to transform and install elevators in existing buildings across the country to set up a special topic of comprehensive research on policies, investment, technology, standards, transformation plans, needs, approval procedures and other aspects.
