Elevators are a frequent means of transportation that we use in our daily travels. It not only connects every floor of the building, but also carries our safety and convenience. However, the safe use of elevators is inseparable from the support of various advanced technologies, among which elevator light curtains are an important safety device. The editor will introduce in detail how the Fareo elevator light curtain works.

Safety light curtains

Elevator light curtain is a light-type elevator door safety protection device, which is suitable for passenger elevators and freight elevators to protect the safety of passengers. It is composed of four parts: infrared transmitters and receivers installed on both sides of the elevator car door, power box installed on the car roof and special flexible cables.

How light curtains work

There are 32 (16) infrared emitting tubes in the transmitter, and under the control of the MCU, the transmitter and receiver tubes are opened sequentially, and the car door area is continuously scanned from top to bottom, forming a dense infrared protective light curtain. When any of the rays of light is blocked, the control system immediately outputs the door opening signal, and the car door stops closing and opens in reverse, until the elevator door can be closed normally after the passenger or the obstruction leaves the warning area, so as to achieve the purpose of safety protection, so as to avoid the occurrence of elevator clamping accidents.

The elevator light curtain is a closed-loop protection system that does not close when the infrared beam detection loop is interrupted. Abnormal interruption of the infrared beam detection loop may be due to the following hardware failures:

1. The light spot is blocked by foreign objects – the foreign objects on the infrared light path of the light curtain should be checked and removed (such as luggage tags, paint stains, chewing gum, etc.), in this case, only the foreign objects on the light path of the light curtain can be restored.

2. The light curtain is used for a long time, or used in a dusty and humid environment (especially during the interior decoration of the building), there will be dust on the infrared emitter/receiving light tube, and the dust needs to be cleaned up, and the elevator door can be restored to normal.

3. Damage to the light spot – Due to the continuous scanning, the infrared emission tube of the infrared light curtain is repeatedly excited by the current, which is a relatively vulnerable device. If the infrared emitting light tube is damaged and the elevator light curtain is closed it should be replaced.

In the process of closing the elevator door, the infrared light curtain is blocked, but it is not triggered, causing danger. This is usually caused by:

1. The scanning beam density of infrared light curtain is not enough, or the scanning mode causes the scanning blind spot.

2. The infrared sensitivity is not enough, and the emission intensity of the infrared light curtain should be the maximum when the elevator door is fully open. As the elevator door closes, the intensity of infrared emission should be reduced step by step (each level should be reduced to the lower limit of being just received by the receiver and not causing the infrared light curtain to malfunction), and the lowest level should be when the door is fully closed. Otherwise, in close proximity, the infrared intensity is too large, and small objects cannot be blocked, and it will occur that there is blocking, but it does not move.

3. Infrared light of similar wavelength in daylight or elevator background stray light irradiates the infrared receiver, resulting in the infrared light curtain still emitting a normal receiving signal despite being blocked by objects. This is especially common in sightseeing elevators and outdoor elevator applications.

Elevator safety should not be overlooked

Fareo elevator is equipped with the Internet of Things high-beam light curtain intelligent system, which can efficiently and accurately automatically identify whether there are foreign objects or personnel entering the car, and automatically stop the operation of the elevator. Avoid dangerous situations such as accidental collisions or edge touches, ensure personal safety and automatically detect the location of the fault.

When blocking the infrared rays on the light curtain with your hands, the elevator door will automatically open, there is a certain distance between the infrared rays, and small objects cannot be identified, when holding the pet to take the elevator, if the rope is not put away, the light curtain may not recognize the rope, and the door is closed directly, so be sure to pull the pet neck cover, or pick up the pet in and out of the elevator, to prevent the pet from running around to avoid danger. The elevator light curtain not only escorts the safety of passengers, but also effectively prolongs the service life of the elevator. During the operation of the elevator, a lot of friction will be generated in the gap between the car door and the floor door, which will lead to the wear and tear of the elevator components. The elevator light curtain can detect and prevent this from happening in time, thereby reducing the wear and tear of elevator components and the number and cost of elevator maintenance.
